Lanesway Scholarship Recipients

Class of  2021 recipients:

These scholarships are in Honor of your fellow classmate Lane Schweitzer. This year as his family we have decided to give three scholarships in his honor. We wish we could give each and every one of you a scholarship in his honor as you all knew him and have kept him alive in your hearts as he still remains a classmate at this great school and Elkhorn class of 2021.

We also understand how you had to grieve the loss of Lane, a friend and classmate. We also know this is not an easy journey as we walk with you every day. As his family we would like to say thank you for loving Lane.

These scholarship recipients are not chosen on academics or scores. These recipients are chosen based on kindness and living the way Lane did. Lanesway is a foundation to help further education and help our veterans as Lane was very passionate about his country and our service men and women. Our family would like to keep his memory and spirit alive. Lane would help anyone that he could and volunteered with many things in his short 15 years here on earth with us.

The 1st recipient will receive a scholarship in the amount of $500.00 and as we stated we wish we could give each of one of you a scholarship there are so many of you that are friends with Lane and have done so much for him either while here was here on this earth or while he has been our Angel. Choosing these recipients was not an easy task.

This young man has taken every challenge that life has thrown him and literally proven there is no stopping him. This young man has suffered loss at a young age and has taken that loss and turned it into positivity every day that he lives life. He has given back to his community and stated on his submission that he intends to keep giving back as he stated “I see countless benefits to giving back and bringing joy to others”. This young man also stated in his advice video if you don’t go out and find happiness you will never be happy…you get out of this world what you put into it. Mason Stilke thank you for lighting a path for us on this journey and congratulations to you and your future endeavors.

The 2nd recipient is a young man that also continues to show kindness and perseverance throughout life and challenges that have been handed his way. He also continues to help others when needed and doesn’t look for anything in return. He has suffered injuries that could have stopped him and like Lane he has not let anything get in his way. He also plans on attending school so he can make a difference in our community and this country by becoming a police officer. He will have to face things that most of us would not ever want to face with the challenges this great country we live in and continue to face on a daily basis. We chose this young man for his strength and living like Lane did. Jake Rockweiler Congratulations and good luck to you on your future endeavors as well.

The next recipient will be receiving the $2500 Lanesway scholarship. This young man that we am about to share with you did so many things that define Lanesway that it truly defines kindness and a young man that puts others first and doesn’t ask for anything in return. This young man stepped up to a task that was not asked of him however we think God truly put this young man in Lane’s path at the most difficult time of Lane’s  life as well. He guided Lane at a point and time when Lane fought through a Traumatic Brain injury and most of you know what that journey looked like as well for Lane. This young man has continued to step up at times when others would not over the years. This young man defines Lanesway Josh Brogren thank you for stepping up when you didn’t have too and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness. Lanesway Scholarship Recipient 2019- Michael Spreitzer

Hello we are Lane Schweitzer’s parents and we lost our son on March 27th, 2019 due to an accident and Lane living life the way he wanted. He was a sophomore here at Elkhorn High School for those of you that didn’t know him. If you knew him you him..you will never forget him..he was a kind hearted young man and always had a smile and a cowboy hat that matched his personality which was big and loving. We decided as his parent’s that we needed a way to keep Lane’s spirit alive and set up a Foundation called Lane’s Way. Lane always lived life to it’s fullest and always did it his way and stood up for what he believed in. As his parent’s we are so proud he is our son and he will always be our son and we will keep his way going every day we live here on earth.

Lane’s Way will honor a graduating student every year here at Elkhorn Area High School and will also honor a veteran and their family each every year as Lane loved his country and our veterans. He wanted to be a Marine himself and that would never be in the cards for him after he fought to come back from a Traumatic Brain injury two years ago ..so he honored our veterans and we will do the same for Lane.

When we reached out to Mr Trottier to ask how to go about this scholarship this is what was sent in the email for the requirements to receive this scholarship:

Lane was one to always open doors for others, ask someone how their day was or ask a teacher how their day was. We received so many letters and cards from your staff and students about Lane and how he touched their lives on a daily basis with the simplest acts of kindness.

So we would like to start with this year’s senior class to present the student of your choice with this award.

We would like them to have the following to receive this award in Lane's honor:

*Show acts of kindness on a daily basis

* support for fellow students and staff

* some one who goes out of their way to help others

*someone who stands up for what they believe in

As crazy as it sounds I kept a lot of my kids artwork and things from school and as I went through some of Lane’s artwork and things from school I came across his book from Kindergarten in 2009 when it was his Marvelous me week at Tibbets and it’s a book all about Lane and at the end of the book his teacher Mrs. Buechel had the following saying and as I read it I thought it’s that…it’s that simple how to live our lives and as I read it …it was truly Lane and same goes for the recipient of this scholarship . As the staff here at Elkhorn Area School chose this recipient based on Lane’s Way.

You are Terrific

I think you are terrific ,And believe me this is true,

I feel so lucky ,To have a friend like you.

You always have a terrific smile,Your attitude is great. When we are taking turns,You politely wait.

I think you are terrific  And believe me this is true, I feel I am so lucky,

To have a friend like you.  You get along with everyone.

You always play fair. And when someone needs a friend, You let them know you care.

I think you are terrific  And believe me this is true, I feel I am so lucky, To have a friend like you.

You are always responsible. You always do your part, Not because you have to, You do it from your heart.

I think you are terrific  And believe me this is true, I feel I am so lucky, To have a friend like you.

So this year we are proud to give the 1st Lane’s Way scholarship in the amount $2000.00   to Michael Spreitzer
