             Lane's Way

OUR LANE...

Lane’s story...

When Lane Kenneth Schweitzer was born on June 18, 2003, we had no idea the impact he would have on this earth in his 15 ½ years. Born and raised in Elkhorn,Wisconsin, he was recognizable as a young man that could make you smile in an instant with his warm smile and infectious, positive attitude.

We are so thankful for our hometown. Elkhorn is an amazing small town community. When we say ‘community’ we mean it in every sense of the word. Every place you go, from the store, to the gas station, to the park, or to the county fair, you are visited with a smile, kind word, hug or handshake.  Growing up, Lane was part of Sugar Creek 4-H club, football and basketball teams within his school, and the WYFL football league. These activities expanded the amount of hearts he touched.

In October 2016, while playing in gym class, Lane fell and suffered a Traumatic Brain injury. From that moment, he had a very difficult journey ahead of him. Initially, he was unable to speak clearly, did not remember his family members, academics, or anything from his past. He needed to relearn everything, worked hard everyday to come back, and truly showed us what it meant to have strength and courage. Throughout his recovery, our friends, family, and community rose up to support Lane and our family. While our family made new friends, those people met a young man with a heart that never stopped giving.

We fly the flag proudly at our home and, through the years, Lane continually showed his love for our country and veterans and, as a young man, he would seek out veterans to shake their hands and thank them for their service to this great country.

All his life, Lane wished to be a Marine, but when he suffered his TBI, he was told that dream could never become a reality. In typical Lane fashion, he accepted this obstacle and adapted it to support our veterans. He was inspired when we toured the Neurology department and visited veterans that suffer from Traumatic Brain Injuries and decided to donate some of the funds he was given to help with medical bills to the State of Wisconsin Madison - VA hospital.

The Day that Changed our lives forever...

On March 27th, 2019, Lane was enjoying a warm spring day doing what all young teenage boys do. Accompanied by his sister and his friend, Lane was called home to God during a tragic dirt bike accident.

We still don’t understand why God decided to take one of the "Good Ones". Lane was truly the most kind-hearted, amazing young man with a life filled with dreams and goals. He filled the world with love and laughter and losing him has left a void that has been unbearable for his mom, dad, and sister.  Each day that passes without Lane is a struggle, but we have decided to use our loss to help our community and country in Lane's honor.

Lane's family will hold a yearly event to honor Lane and who he was. The funds collected during this event will be used to help our veterans. We also donate an annual scholarship to a graduating senior at Elkhorn Area High School exemplifies all of the caring and respect that Lane stood for.

As we plan the 2022 event for Lane's Way, Inc, updates will be provided on this site. However, with Lane’s passion for cars and trucks, we have decided to host a car/truck show with lots of activities and family fun! We are excited to plan an event Lane would have wanted to be a part of. Stay tuned..

As promised Lanesway car & truck show will be Saturday September 10th,2022. From 10am to 3pm and will be honoring the victims of 9/11 and our veterans.  Stay tuned for details as the event date gets closer.

Honoring the Red White & Blue

Lane's way will be partnering with the Masdison VA hospital to connect with veterans in need. We will especially focus to help veterans that suffer from Traumatic Brain Injuries. However our goal is to help as many veterans as possible. As a family, we understand the daily struggles and want to do everything we can to help them and their families. This organization will give us the chance to keep Lane's spirit alive, continue to be his parents, and honor this great country we live in. We are thankful for what these men and women have given to protect our freedom. Their sacrifices allow us to live our daily lives without fear.
